 Annual Academy Awards Viewing Party
*AKA: Super Duper Fantabulous Oscar Extravaganza!

'And the winner is...'
Predict & Win
Many years ago I joined in on co-hosting an Academy Awards viewing party with my friend, Victoria Brewen, who had already been hosting one for some time by then. Always a casual affair as far as attire was concerned, the event has evolved over the years regarding refreshments, snacks and extras. On the day of last year's ceremony, we scored a sturdy poster of a giant Oscar statuette from a generous Ralph's grocery store, beginning the tradition of taking photos in front of the prop. During the red carpet pre-show, ballots for the Predict & Win contest were filled in and prize money placed in an official Oscar-modeled envelope as guests celebrated in style and comfort while sipping some bubbly, long the cocktail of choice. This year we again had a sampling of champagne and sparkling wine, with the occasion often presenting a great opportunity for a tasting. Featured were Trader Joe's exclusives: Schloss Biebrich Sekt and non-alcoholic Sparkling White Chardonnay Grape Juice, both with festive champagne corks. Appetizers were mainly from Trader Joe's also, being a classic option for creating an elegant spread. As usual, Rafael Robles, Vicki's fiancé, treated us to a barbeque of carne asada, this time adding nopales to the menu. A new element this year were the 'Everybody Wins' swag bags I created which were inspired by the official 2012 version. Wrapped in cellophane pouches reminiscent of movie popcorn containers, the party favors included mini bottles of Disaronno and Purell, as well as art cards of artist Joyce Wisdom's work and the coveted chocolate Oscar, made possible by molds from The Chocolate Pixie.
